Costa Rica

Coffee was first cultivated in Costa Rica in 1779. Therefore it was one of the first Central American countries to do so. Consequently today coffee one of the top 3 crop export crops for Costa Rica.

As a result of thousands of years of volcanic activity the soils are rich and fertile. Add to this the high altitude, good varieties and cultivars and the necessary expertise and it is easy to see how Costa Rica can offer great coffee.

As a result we are normally keen to find great Costa Ricans.  With this in mind we have worked partners with local presence. Since Falcon Specialty are careful to track down stand-out coffees, we have used their expertise to identify delicious Costa Ricans.

The Zamora Family

The Zamora family have 11 farms. All but one of the farms is in the Central Valley on the slopes of the Poás Volcano. Especially relevant is that the predominant varietals of all of the farms are Caturra and Catuai. Cafetalera Zamorana is very much a family venture, and a testament to the hard work of all involved, with Don Jorge at the helm and his 6 children taking different roles. Diego and Alberto have responsibility for farms and the coffee. Diego manages the mills and the sales while Alberto manages the agricultural side.
